Working contract type: Freelance
The role:

The Psychedelic Society is a mission-driven not for profit worker’s cooperative organisation that hosts more than 400 events for over 10,000 people each year and has been educating the public and providing a space for the psychedelic community for nearly 10 years.

As we continue to grow and develop, we are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic social media manager to help us tell the unique story of what we offer and help us differentiate ourselves in the rapidly expanding psychedelic space.

The person doing this role should first and foremost be a storyteller adept at weaving a narrative that will resonate with our vision and audience - we are building a community, and you are building the story of that community.

You should have a deep interest in our mission and the psychedelic movement including a knowledge of its nuance, risks, and tangential areas. You should also be a fan of Psychedelic Society itself - intimately and experientially familiar with the kinds of diverse activities we offer, and an understanding of why we offer them.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proactively and creatively manage social media accounts for The Psychedelic Society (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Circle) including growing followers

  • Liaise with event facilitators to ensure timely and persuasive promotion of upcoming events

  • Develop and execute social media strategies for content related to wider Psychedelic Society brand, mission, and vision (in collaboration with comms manager)

  • Drive traffic to The Psychedelic Society's website

  • Monitor channels, engage with followers, and build relationships especially on Circle, our members-only platform

  • Measure and report on social media results

  • Attend one events team meeting per month

  • Work closely with and attend bi-weekly check-ins with comms manager (Lauren Katalinich)

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • 2+ years of experience in social media marketing or related comms/marketing

  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and trends including advertising

  • Excellent writing and copy editing skills

  • Basic video, graphic design and website skills (Canva, Squarespace; optional: Adobe Suite)

  • Self-starter with desire and ability to work independently including strong personal boundaries to self-manage in a dynamic team (experience in managing own projects/business is ideal)

  • Highly organised, punctual, responsive with strong interpersonal communication skills

  • Passion for psychedelic movement and a love of the psychedelic community

  • Systems-oriented with the ability to create effective streamlined content delivery

  • Ideally can spread 16hrs out over the week

This will be a fluid role, requiring a diverse range of skills and a willingness to be adaptive and learn on the job in a dynamic environment. We are a Teal organisation which is largely based on co-operative, non-hierarchical structures.

We’re a family - we value personal wellbeing, and support each other to achieve our individual and collective purpose. Come join us!
